The post-doctoral program that LLSP designed is invaluable to pre-tenure scholars. I was able to teach a course I designed based on my research topic. It was a pleasure to teach the LLSP students. They are energetic and hard workers, encouraging me to give them my very best. During the semester of teaching, I conducted research and important interviews for my project. After the one semester of teaching, LLSP gave me the much needed time and thinking space to continue writing in order to finish my manuscript. Throughout the year, I was part of a junior faculty research study group and am grateful to have received constructive feedback on my chapters. It was a pleasure to work with the LLSP faculty and staff. I quickly felt like a colleague y familia. As well, the facilities on campus are tremendous. UIUC has the best public library in the nation. I spent many hours there. They have everything you need. Inter-library loan is also quick and easy.

In addition to research and writing, LLSP staff and faculty help you to consider other facets of academic life. You are invited to partake in academic activities with students as well as faculty and administrators. I made sure that my freshmen students became familiar with the LLSP program. Many of them later became minors or majors in LLSP. I believe my limited involvement helped me prepare for my current position as Coordinator of Latino and Latin American Studies.

Thank you LLSP for your support of junior faculty! By having this program, you bring cutting edge research to the students and to the university. You also support the work that emerging scholars are conducting.
