 La Casa Cultural Latina and the Latina/Latino Studies Program are currently collaborating with alumni to establish an alumni organization for Latina and Latino alumni of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. We envision that the organization will provide Latina and Latino alumni with a means for reconnecting with old acquaintances, opportunities to socialize and network with other alumni as well as current students, and a forum for Latina and Latino alumni to voice their opinions collectively and individually regarding issues affecting the Latino community at UIUC, among other benefits. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response we received to a survey we circulated to Latina and Latino alumni around the state of Illinois to determine the level of interest in an alumni organization, a core group of Urbana-Champaign faculty and academic professionals (alumni and non-alumni) have been collaborating to lay the groundwork for the organization. We are very excited about the prospect of a national organization specifically for UIUC Latina and Latino alumni, and we hope you will join us by becoming a member once the organization has been established.
